Advantis Integration Platform (AIP)

Advantis Control Solutions Ltd has developed A.I.P (Advantis Integration Platform) to both replace the now obsolete SSD Link equipment and provide a modern, expandable network system allowing the customer to continue to develop their existing control systems, with incorporation of a wide range of modern components from many independent suppliers.

The heart of the A.I.P. system is a library of control function blocks written using CoDeSys, an increasingly popular development environment adhering to the IEC 61131-3 international industrial standard, which is being employed by more and more manufacturers as the basis for their software platforms.

The function blocks draw on strengths of the comprehensive SSD Link library, which have for almost 2 decades enabled designers to produce very complex control strategies in a logical and easy to interpret format.

These blocks provide high level pre-defined functions ideally suited to process industry applications such as Paper production and Converting, Web Transfer, Extrusion and Wire Drawing, among many others.

When replacing obsolete Link Systems, the A.I.P. Library allows the existing configurations to be replicated with the minimum of requirement for re-engineering, whilst continuing to provide the benefits of an easy to interpret function block based programming environment.

As well as standard digital and analogue hardware, AIP also includes advanced options such as Bluetooth wireless communication and Vibration analysis modules, which can easily be incorporated into existing schemes for enhanced functionality.

Additionally, owing to the CoDeSys base, the system can be implemented directly into a wide range of equipment including drives and servo controllers utilising this programming platform, providing compact stand-alone functionality for smaller applications.

Industry standard Ethernet Modbus TCP IP provides the primary network protocol allowing integration with customer’s plant networks for data acquisition and monitoring purposes. This takes full advantage of standard installation hardware and robust network architecture.

Direct replacement of the Link 2 Operator stations has been designed around a combination of the Parker TS8006 LCD touch screen HMI and a programmable fieldbus module. Due to the significantly increased memory capacity of the fieldbus module, the functionality of several Link HMI and processor units can be combined into one module, representing a cost saving when replacing multi display systems.

Online visualisation is provided within the fieldbus units to allow configurable network monitoring and control of any aspect of the machine.

Additionally, the inbuilt functionality of the TS8000 range is available, providing Alarm handling and notification, data acquisition and trending, remote control and monitoring and protocol conversion.

As a further enhancement, larger screens can be utilised.

Replacement of Link 1 Digital, Analogue and Serial modules as well as Link 2 processor modules is covered by the fieldbus hardware.

Upgrade of more modern Parker SSD Drives using Link Tech Boxes is easily achieved by replacing these with Ethernet modules.

Due to the more integrated nature of the earlier Drives, coupled with the age of the devices, it is anticipated that customers will undertake complete replacement of the older drive modules, providing advantages in both reliability and spares support.

Whilst Advantis have based the development of the Platform on the Parker Drive range and TS8000 range of HMIs, due to the open nature of the system it is possible to replace any of these units with equipment from other manufacturers, ideally communicating over Ethernet, allowing customers to tailor the system to their individual requirements.

For smaller systems, full upgrade can be accomplished in a single operation, minimising upgrade timescales.

For larger installations, where a structured upgrade is required, A.I.P. has been designed to integrate directly with the existing Link Platform, allowing staged upgrade over a period of time to suite the customer’s production requirements and budget.
